Citizen Science GLOBE Program

The Citizen Science GLOBE Program involves Red Lake Reservation students and community members in the analysis of Reservation water quality.  Involving students and community members with hands-on monitoring of the health of the Reservation’s waters will promote integrated environmental watershed stewardship, and emphasizing careers in the environmental field. GLOBE (Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment) is a worldwide hands-on primary and secondary school-based science and education program. GLOBE's vision promotes and supports students, teachers, and scientists to collaborate in study and research about the dynamics of Earth's environment.

Volunteers currently have been monitoring streams on the Reservation for: Temperature, pH, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, total phosphorus, and total nitrogen.  The volunteers have also been collecting GPS waypoints, conducting habitat assessments, and flow measurements at stream sites.  If you are interested in volunteering 4-8 hrs a week, please contact Jeni at Red Lake DNR, 218-679-3959x1347.
