Wetlands Program
The Red Lake DNR Wetlands program is a branch of the Water Resources program that researches, maintains, and protects over 250,000 acres of wetlands on Tribal lands. Our mission is to preserve and protect the wetland resources of the Red Lake Reservation for the benefit of all current and future members of the Red Lake Band. The program began in 2009 and currently consists of one Wetland Biologist and one seasonal technician. The program provides wetland monitoring, education, and consultation. The program works with the Red Lake Planning Department, Roads program, and Red Lake Builders to provide information that will prevent wetland degradation. The programs collabrates with programs within the RL DNR, such as Wildlife, Forestry, and other Water Resources programs to make appropriate management recommendations that will be beneficial to all natural resources on the reservation.
